Depth Psychotherapy
“The soul asks two questions: Why am I here? And in service to what?”
Depth psychology is a modern field of psychology that emerged out of the theories of psychologists Carl G. Jung and Sigmund Freud. Depth psychology merges elements of both Psychoanalytic and Jungian Analytic thought. The approach calls attention to the importance of exploring what lies below the surface of conscious awareness, and the relationship between the conscious and the unconscious material.
Depth-oriented psychotherapist often place importance on the therapeutic use of images, metaphors, dreams, the arts, symbolism, archetypes, psyche in personal and cultural expression, and nature throughout the course of therapy. By doing so, we create psychic spaces for 'hosting' psyche in its myriad of unconscious forms and and move emerging material into awareness. Often, what is discovered by a client is latent with healing and balancing properties that contribute to experiences of greater psychic wholeness and personal transformation.
“There comes a time when the bubble of ego is popped and you can’t get the ground back for an extended period of time.
Those times, when you absolutely cannot get it back together,
are the most rich and powerful times in our lives.”
HOW I WORK
For many individuals and couples that I work with, there are parts of them that have yet to feel fully seen, heard, or cared for. This can be a result of neglect, abandonment, abuse, loss, trauma, or other experiences where there was a lack of support and security. These experiences can make it difficult to imagine a world that is safe and trustworthy. It also teaches the mind, heart, and body to engage life in an overly defended, disconnected, or protected way. Left unexplored, these patterns often contribute to an underlying pain or uneasiness that expresses itself in a myriad of symptoms, such as anxiety or depression, or struggles with intimacy.
What I Do:
Working together in a safe, trusting, and confidential space, I will offer you reflections and guidance throughout your process of making sense of your difficulties and overcoming the roadblocks and barriers that stand in your way. I will also support your process of increasing insight and understanding of core issues and unconscious dynamics that live outside your field of awareness but contribute to your pain, suffering, and patterns that no longer serve you.
Who I Work With:
I work with individuals and couples who feel like they are in flux, stuck, at odds with life, or drifting from their path- but are ready to dig deep and recharge their lives with a quality of embodied soulfulness, returning meaning, value, and direction back into their daily experiences.
How I Will Approach Our Time Together:
Although I have received training in several theoretical schools of thought, I continue to work within an eclectic framework that is compassionate, mindfulness-based, and relationship-driven with a respect for multiculturalism and diversity. My style is integrative and holistic, and inspired by the present moment and what's happening directly in session. I view the body as an incredibly valuable resource that reflects and stores the living experiences of each individual.
“Something deep in the human soul awakens as things fall apart. Something in the soul knows that everything in this world can become lost. And something in the soul knows how to survive periods of devastation, disorientation and loss. Descent and falling is the way of the soul from its beginning. We each fell from the womb of life when the waters of the inner sea broke and it came time for us to breathe on our own.”
